Walt’s Review

Sucker Punch promised us amazing visuals and it certainly delivered… and brought friends.

The Skinny

Our heroine does what she can to save her sister from the wrath, and sexual education lesson, of her step father. This ends up killing the sister, so… I guess she’s successful… sorta. Our new lady friend finds herself in a mental asylum… that’s really a brothel? Wait, really?

Sister-killer recruits 4 other sluts… I mean hookers… errr… beautiful women to help her in her… dances? I guess. So when the one chick is dancing, no one can look away from her and her friends can steal stuff from the place they’re in… so they can escape. Seriously, that’s our plot.

The Plot

To be completely honest, there wasn’t one. The plot that they attempted to feed you was completely ridiculous. I could attempt to give you a synopsis, but I like you too much and won’t harm your brain with what I’d have to write.

The Visuals

Absolutely pure amazingness. The art department must have had an unlimited budget and made great use of it. I could not find a single flaw in the look and feel of the place. I was drawn in from the overall atmosphere. Great work there guys!

The Music

The music was strikingly good. Get the soundtrack. Immediately. Tyler Bates & Marius De Vries produced amazing work to accompany the beautiful visuals.

The End

Honestly, I could only watch about 30 minutes or so… had to stop somewhere in the beginning of the scene where the 5 girls are fighting an army of clockwork Nazi zombies. Seriously.

I’ll probably watch it all the way through one day, but the amazing visuals are not enough to make me endure Zack Snyder’s utterly ridiculous story.

Get Yours

I have been using a little piece of software on my PC for 2 weeks now and I must say bravo to the people over at Tonido. This software allows you to share large files, stream your videos, listen to your music, publish a blog, even queue up a torrent remotely! On top of that access your documents, photos, music and videos using native iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows Phone and Blackberry apps. Overall this is a handy little application to run out of your house if your sick of paying cloud fees and you have the space to host your own cloud.

What really drew me in to this software is the cross platform compatibility. I run a Linux box so cross platform software is sometimes a harsh mistress to deal with. This integrated flawlessly into Linux, Windows, Mac OS, and my Android phone! Running multiple platforms? No problem! The server applications that run on each respective PC can be linked to form one large networked cloud accessible anywhere. Tonido also offers hardware and storage solutions for reasonable prices.

Download the free software at http://www.tonido.com and get the optional hardware at http://www.tonidoplug.com/tonido_plug.html.

Check out Chris Pirillo’s Review:

Anyways, that’s my first software review. Expect more from the world of Linux and Android in the near future.

(This is first impressions based on a demo from the Duke Nukem Forever First Access Club. I fully understand that this is not a accurate depiction of what the final game will look or play like. Also expect this to be NSFW, there is no way around it.)

Well, Duke Nukem Forever is finally coming out, I don’t think I need to tell you about the development of this game (I mean hell it has it’s own wikipdia page) so let’s just say after a very, very long time we get a proper sequel to the 90s hit FPS: Duke Nukem 3D. Now thanks to the mighty and awesome Borderlands I have a first access key, I get perks such as free DLC for the game, pictures of half-naked women, and as of June 3rd, the demo. So seeing as how most demos try to sell you on the game let’s dive into it.

The demo opens with the high octane metal mix of Dukes theme song Grabbag, then cuts to Duke whistling the same song while taking a piss on a urinal, after spiting out one liners like “I don’t have time to piss around.” I now have control of Duke, first thing I notice is that you can interact with almost anything in the world, even in the bathroom/showers you can turn the water on, wash your hands, blow dry your hands, drink from the water fountain, pick up a deuce from the toilet and sling it at people (Let’s forget about that one.) and after you leave the bathroom you can mark on a whiteboard, do any of these thing effect gameplay? No. Are they fun? Yes… for a few minutes. So this all starts in a locker room, and if you played Duke Nukem 3D you know the last boss was in a football stadium, so you can guess this whole first half is mainly for nostalgia as you ride up to the stadium and face off against the Cycloid Emperor, who is now much easier then when he was in Duke 3D. After you use a weapon called “Devastator” on his ass, you run up to him for a quick time event… OK it’s just mashing the jump button a lot but still… Then proceed to kick a field goal with his eye, when the camera zooms out to revile duke holding a gold Xbox 360 controller while getting a blow job from twins Mary and Kate Holsum.

Twins: “What about the game, Duke? Was it any good?
Duke: “Yeah, but after 12 fucking years, it should be!”

It’s at this point you get what the game is about, blowing shit up, one liners, and sex. The ultimate male fantasy.

In the next level you get to drive a monster truck, it controls well, you can make soft or hard turns and turbo boost over aliens. However after Duke does his best General Lee impression the truck runs out of gas and it’s on foot into a mine, this is were the combat is shown off. So lets get into the combat, it’s Halo… That’s about it really, you can only carry 2 guns at a time and your health regenerates, I will admit it I kinda disappointed that you can’t carry around a whole slew of weapons, but I get why they did it, without that restriction the game might be too easy and this way all the guns are balanced. after going into the mine you get to see some of the physic of the game engine like pushing a mine cart or picking up a barrel and throwing it at something, it’s nice but again it doesn’t effect gameplay. After squishing some alien bugs and grabbing a gas can, you leave themine, fill up your car, and the demo ends.

So from all that is here, do I think this game will be good? Yes I do, however it won’t be the end-all-be-all FPS to rule them all, it will just be a good normal FPS… With tits, lots and lots of tits.

Duke Nukem Forever is available on Xbox 360, PS3 and PC internationally on June 10th, and in north America on June 14th.

Have a file here that you want there? You can email it to yourself the file like normal, maybe put it on a flash drive. Personally, I just save it to my Dropbox.

So what is this magical box that you drop stuff into? Dropbox is simple file syncing between multiple physical machines you use.

The Skinny

You save whatever you want into a directory on your computer in a folder called Dropbox.

It automatically uploads that file without killing your bandwidth (internet connection) to the cloud.

The file downloads to your other computer(s) that you have Dropbox installed on without killing your bandwidth.

You can also access these files from your web browser.

There is a free version. The difference between free and paid is mostly disk space. Free version is 2gigs. Paid versions are 50, 100 gigs and up.

Super fast signup.

Service since September 2008.

Multiple operating systems supported: Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS (iPhone/iPad) and Blackberry.

I’ll teach you how to get more free space, up to 10 gigs.

The Tech

It’s really simple to use this. You install a very small program and state what folder you want to designate as your Dropbox. Anything inside your Dropbox gets synced with the web and your other computer(s).

To get more granular, file revisions literally just change the revised part. Say you have a large PowerPoint presentation that’s about 50 megs and you change 2 slides. The literal data from those 2 slides gets synced, not the other 49.5 megs.

The Free

Sign up for the free 2 gig account.

Confirm your email. (I don’t get spam from these guys.)

Connect to and confirm your .edu email address. (Optional) This will make your referrals award you 500 megs each instead of the traditional 250 megs.

Work through the Get Started tab.+250 megs

Connect Dropbox to twitter and facebook. After jumping through the hoops, I removed the associations and deleted the tweets/posts. Still kept the free space. +768 megs

Refer others to Dropbox. You get +250 megs per referral or +500 megs if you connected a .edu email address. Note that the limit is 8 gigs for bonus space, regardless of a .edu account or not.

Following the basics here will get you a little more than 3 gigs of space which is a great way to evaluate this service. If you get the maximum number of referrals, you’ll end up with a little more than 10 gigs of space for your free account.

You can also share your files with specific people with a link sent via email for whatever you specify.

The End

I’ve been using this for more than a year and I totally love it. The space I have is pretty darn adequate for my needs. It’s great to know that I don’t have to do anything more than just put a file in the right directory to get it to end up on my home computer or laptop.

I highly recommend Dropbox and I highly recommend you sign up with my referral link so we both get another +250 megs!
